Calico Tanks Trail — Light for the Next Step
Nathaniel A'mon
A Hike With God · Saturday, October 24, 2026 · 8:00 a.m. Pacific meetup
Come as you are. Walk with intention. Join us among the sandstone of Calico Tanks for conversation, prayer, and a Selah pause—Pause • Breathe • Listen. Our reflection is “Light for the Next Step,” inspired by Psalm 119:105. Sharing is an invitation; silence is welcome.
Meet here first
Albertsons parking lot
11720 W Charleston Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89135
Meet at 8:00 a.m. for check-in and carpool coordination. We will travel together to the Red Rock Canyon Scenic Drive entrance, then Sandstone Quarry trailhead. This is the meeting point—not the trailhead. Leave time for check-in, entry, and the drive; the hike itself is about two hours. Allow the morning until approximately noon for travel and reflection; the return time may vary.
Know the walk
- Moderate / intermediate, with strenuous sections: sandstone steps, uneven ground, and hands-on scrambling.
- Out & back: approximately 2.2–2.5 miles, with about 406 feet of elevation gain.
- Pace: attentive and unhurried, with pauses as terrain allows. This is not a flat walking route or a wheelchair/stroller-accessible trail.

RSVP & carpool
Each person needs a hike RSVP. Please register yourself so we can count participants and coordinate cars. Our carpool plan is a maximum of four people per car, including the driver, within the vehicle’s legal seating capacity. Tell us whether you need a ride, can drive, or will arrange your own transport. A ride is not guaranteed until coordinated.
Drivers need a separate Red Rock timed-entry reservation for October 24. Coordinate an entry window with the leader before booking. Our hike RSVP does not reserve park entry. An entrance fee or accepted pass is also required; paying admission alone does not replace timed entry. Download the reservation before arrival and bring any required physical pass. Official vehicle entry reservations & current fees.
Before we walk
Bring water and extra for delays, snacks, grip-soled hiking shoes, sun protection, layers, personal medication, and a charged phone. A small journal is welcome. Review the packing list and weather guidance. Follow established routes, pack out trash, and give wildlife space.
Read the waiver process; the applicable event waiver must be completed before participation. An RSVP or preparation acknowledgement does not replace the event waiver. A parent or legal guardian must arrange any required consent for a minor with the leader.
Weather, closures, or unsafe conditions may change or cancel the gathering. Check your email and this event page before leaving. Cancel your RSVP if your plans change so we can adjust carpool arrangements.
